With a title that plays with the politics of the street, GRA maps the boundaries between public and private, as well as conditions affected by status, class and continual territorial struggles. In the framing of Lagos as a place of contradiction, in which opposing truths can be evident all at once, and its inhabitants ‘living on the edge,’ GRA alludes to ‘the politics of the belly’ and the big state. Stripping the road from its original context and situating it in an exhibition context within a reclaimed space, the installation becomes a performative exercise in the privatization of the public.
