Artist’s statement

A Statement of Pride is an ongoing documentation of my hair. Every photograph was taken in a photo booth either during my journeys to university, out with friends or just going for a night out. I want to show the world – especially young black children – that there is no limit to their hair, and that they can do as much or as little as they want to do with their hair. It is all about what makes you feel good and beautiful because our hair bonds us with our culture and identity and should not be a factor for judgement or insecurity. Wear it with pride!
