This iteration of Jérôme Chazeix’s We’re Building a City project consists of flags, costumes, and filmic documentation of a street performance that occurred in Lagos just days before the opening of the biennial. As with prior iterations of the work, notably one that occurred in Amsterdam in 2013, here Chazeix combines different mediums and physical environments in an effort to harness the energy of the city and stimulate human interactions. This elaborates the artist’s belief that artworks possess the capacity to stimulate unexpected and meaningful fusions between humans, natural forms, and built environments.
